Via Kalevala 2016-2035

Construction of the Via Kalevala cultural tourism route began in 2016 with the 1,000 km Kalevala walk to the Paikkarin Torppa, through the poem villages of Viena to Uhtua. The walk will be carried out again in 2017 in honor of Finland’s independence anniversary. These walks will be continued all the way to our 200-anniversary year, until the year 2035.

The reason behind these walking events is to raise awareness in Finno-Karelian folklore as a tourism brand. All in the spirit of our 180 year old and the most widely known national epic.

The project combines heath, culture and nature experiences into an entity that attracts urbanized people and those looking for their roots.
